Hair restoration is a therapy that awakens sleepy hair follicles, increasing the thickness of the hair shaft. The procedure occurs in three steps, getting your blood drawn, having your blood processed, separating the Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) from the other blood, and then having tiny injections of the PRF into the part of the scalp that needs increased hair growth.
At Aphrodite Laser Skin Care we use an advanced microneedling device which decreases pain or any discomfort. Microneedling is used to create micro wounds that penetrate down to the dermis layer of the skin to stimulate collagen production. Following microneedling we will use the PRF as a serum + a specialty serum infused with vitamins and generously apply it to your scalp to promote natural hair growth. We will also inject PRF into the scalp in areas of thinning hair.
The benefits of hair restoration with PRF are that not only will you dramatically increase your self-confidence and improve your appearance, but you will also be undergoing a non-invasive procedure. PRF uses your body’s own cells to help boost hair growth by triggering and maintaining the growth phase, and increasing the blood supply to the follicle with the end result being a thicker, fuller, head of hair.
Thoroughly wash and rinse your hair the morning of the treatment with shampoo, do not use conditioner. Avoid styling products such as sprays or gels. You will need to discontinue blood thinning agents such as vitamin E, A, Ginko, Garlic, Flax and essential fatty acids at least one week before treatment.
During your treatment you we will prep and cleanse the area. Typically PRF treatments to the scalp do not require any numbing agents, but we do have topical numbing cream available if needed. We will draw your blood, separate the PRF from the other blood and infuse the PRF into your scalp using Radiofrequency Micro-needling and injections.
Avoid touching or washing the area 8 hours post procedure. Blood thinners should be avoided for 1 week post treatment. Activities to avoid post treatment and for 48 hours post treatment would be strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, and swimming.
Typically the procedure will take anywhere from 45-60 minutes depending on the amount of hair loss. You should expect at least 3 sessions 6-8 weeks apart for optimal results.
The hair follicles treated with PRF will immediately be reinvigorated and begin to grow new hair. The hair will strengthen and become thicker. Hair growth is a slower process, and results can be seen within three to six months.
For the typical hair loss client, about 3 PRF treatments spaced about 6 weeks apart are usually recommended. This is then generally followed by quarterly treatments to maintain the results for the first year. After the first year, the PRF treatment frequency can be reduced, based on the specific hair regrowth of each individual.
We recommend that you check with your prescribing physician to be sure there would not be any contraindications for this treatment. If you are on or taking any of these medications: Coumadin, Heparin, Plavix, or Propanolol, please check with your Physician first before discontinuing these medications. Other supplements that could thin the blood are Advil, fish oil, ginko, garlic, or flax. These blood thinners or supplements should be avoided 1week before and after your procedure for optimal results.
Common side effects include: swelling, bruising, and itching, or discomfort that may last up to 5 days. Tylenol should be used for any discomfort related to the procedure.
